Lyrics

I remember when I was young, my father said to me.
This land might be yours one day in the beautiful country.
Then, the government wrote a letter to say that it was better.
That they took all the mountain tops from the old snow country

They knew we would cry when they took our land of pride.
And sold our heritage, too.
And the brumby roams free in this beautiful sanctuary.
But they know the mt man is still alive as we know that we would survive.

Now the years are getting bolder, and I know that I am older.
I ride a horse like when I was seventeen.
Now they locked the Mt ranges to make us feel like strangers.
When I try to get to a place, I’d like to call our home.

They knew we would cry when they took our land of pride.
And sold our heritage, too.
And the brumby roams free in this beautiful sanctuary.
But they know the mountain man is still alive, we know that he would survive.

Well, they say our horse ruin all the bush when we ride through em
But I know that I’ve been riding here for years.
Cause I’ve seen a hundred riders chasing brumbies through the highland.
Do less damage than a 4WD to me.

Now, all that I’m saying is our heritage is dying.
Like the rusted fences lying on the ground
All the names are forgotten like the Oldfield and the Taylors
But you still can hear that stockman whip crack loud.
ah, you hear them all so proud.

They knew we would cry when they took our land of pride.
And sold our heritage, too.
And the brumby roams free in this beautiful sanctuary.
But they know the mt man is still alive as we know that we would survive
